How Elite Edge Measures Athlete Progress and Readiness

Parents should not have to guess whether their child is improving.

At Elite Edge Sports Performance in Valencia, we use assessments, readiness check-ins, training data and coach observations to track athlete development. This approach is built into every program we run for youth athletes across the Santa Clarita Valley.

Starting With a Baseline

Every new athlete begins with a free assessment week.

Depending on the athlete's age and program, coaches may evaluate:

  • Movement quality
  • Coordination
  • Sprint performance
  • Vertical jumping
  • Reactive strength
  • Strength
  • Body control

This creates a starting point that can be compared with future results. Families receive feedback and a recommendation for the appropriate B.I.G. program tier.

Why Readiness Matters

Athletes do not arrive at every workout feeling the same.

An athlete may have slept poorly, skipped a meal, played several games or attended a difficult practice.

Before training, athletes may answer simple questions about:

  • Sleep
  • Nutrition
  • Soreness
  • Energy
  • Overall readiness

Coaches can use this information along with physical performance and observation to make better training decisions.

A lower readiness score does not automatically mean the athlete skips the workout. It may mean adjusting the weight, volume, sprint distance or conditioning intensity.

Measuring Long-Term Progress

Periodic assessments can help show changes in:

  • Sprint speed
  • Jump performance
  • Strength
  • Movement quality
  • Conditioning
  • Training consistency
  • Exercise progression

Not every area will improve at the same rate.

One athlete may improve coordination first. Another may become stronger before becoming faster. Coaches look at the overall trend rather than relying on one test.
